on the road and cormac mccarthy

I’m not interested in writing short stories. Anything that doesn’t take years of your life and drive you to suicide hardly seems worth doing.

In a nutshell, this is often how I feel about graduate school. Also I still can’t believe The Road has been made into a movie, I can’t image someone reading that book and being like, yes – this will make for excellent cinema. There is very little plot and almost no dialog. The characters don’t even really have names. It’s a great book, a devastating book – but I can’t see adapting it.

“I have the same letter from about six different people. One from Australia, one from Germany, one from England, but they all said the same thing. They said, “I started reading your book after dinner and I finished it 3:45 the next morning, and I got up and went upstairs and I got my kids up and I just sat there in the bed and held them.”

I hope the trailers aren’t an indication of the beefed up role of the Mother, and I hope I’m wrong about the movie.
